What is a Magnet Program?
Magnet programs are schools of choice that offer unique courses of study focusing on students’ special interests, talents and abilities. As part of the public school system, magnet programs/schools are provided at no cost to eligible students. The magnet programs available at our school are Environmental Research and Field Studies, Biomedical Research, and Robotics and Engineering Technology
Who is Eligible to Attend a Magnet Program/School?
Application to magnet programs/schools is open to all school age children who either attend or are eligible to attend a Miami-Dade County Public School.
Why Should My Child Attend A Magnet Program/School?
Magnet programs/schools offer enhanced educational opportunities for students. The different themes offered at our school offer choices designed to meet students’ interests. The goals of magnet programs/schools are to provide an excellent educational opportunity for students and to facilitate collaboration, research and cooperation.
When Do I Apply for Admission to TERRA Environmental Research Institute?
Applications for TERRA Environmental Research Institute for the 2010-2011 school year will be available through our website http://choice.dadeschools.net from October 1, 2011 through January 15, 2012.
Any applications received by the TERRA office after January 15th, 2012 will be considered late and will not enter the random selection process. Late applications may only be filled out at the school’s main office. Students whose applications were turned in before January 15th, 2012 will be given admissions priority over late applications.
How Are Students Selected for a Magnet Program/School?
Once a completed application is received, eligibility is determined by the magnet program/school based on a variety of factors. When the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of spaces available a random selection is used for student selection.
Is Transportation Provided to TERRA Environmental Research Institute?
TERRA Environmental Research Institute is a commuter school and therefore no Miami-Dade County Public School Bus Service is provided for the students attending our school.
Are Sports and Clubs Offered at TERRA?
A variety of group sports are offered at TERRA including but not limited to Soccer, Basketball, Golf, Swimming,Volleyball and Baseball. Clubs are provided according to student interested Please visit our Activities Site for more information on clubs. We participate in many of the honor society and academic clubs.
Are Uniforms Required at TERRA?
TERRA Environmental Research Institute is a full uniform school. Students are expected to wear their official school uniforms and school ID’s at all times while on the school campus.
